Open Doors: open a new door!
Open Doors has started 2026 in its new home on West Street, bringing together all its activities under one roof for the first time. CAG Somerset was excited to attend the launch event before Christmas as part of Crewkerne’s Winter Window project: a packed evening to celebrate the 3D street map created in collaboration with local residents, mince pies a plenty and an opportunity to share ideas for future events in the space. Open Doors’ Festive Model Window was funded by Suez SCOPE grant and Somerset Community Foundation.

Jess Wright, Open Doors continues the story: “We opened operations from our new Hub in the New Year and we’ve had an incredible response to our new home. We’ve seen higher numbers for both the community fridge and Repair Hub. Over 150 people have visited and enjoyed picking up some free food or pantry products, enjoyed a free meal or had something mended.”
Open Doors had been looking for new premises which would allow them to house all their activities in one space. And their new home has also allowed them to launch a regular free ‘Souper Bowl’ lunch. Jess explains “You can come along and join us each week every Thursday from 11.30am to help us prepare the soup or just turn up from 12pm to eat! Where possible, we try to use local and seasonal ingredients alongside surplus food from the Food Pantry.” The session is free, donations are welcome towards the Hub.
