Shepton Mallet Community Fridge Embarks on an exciting new chapter!

After more than three years of success, the Shepton Mallet Community Fridge is stepping into an exciting new era. Known for its tireless work in reducing food waste and supporting the local community, the project has announced plans to expand its mission.

The initiative will soon add a new element: Shepton Waste Action Group (SWAG) — a title as bold and playful as the group’s ambitions. With this rebrand, the team is preparing to tackle waste in all its forms, offering creative and practical solutions to help residents reuse, repair, and rethink what might otherwise be discarded.

🏠 A New Home on the High Street
The group has secured an extra space at 50 High Street . Initially a six-month trial – but with ambitious plans to extend this time. The venue will enable the team to host a variety of pop-up events, from swap shops and repair cafés to waste-themed craft workshops. The space also boasts a charming meeting room, which the group hopes to share with other like-minded local ventures.

💚 The Fridge Stays Put
For those who rely on the Community Fridge, there’s no need to worry — the fridge itself will remain exactly where it is, continuing to provide the same valuable service to the town. The new space is simply an addition, a hub for creativity, collaboration, and community spirit.

🌍 A Collaborative Vision
At its heart, SWAG is about more than just saving waste. It’s about building connections with local businesses, fostering collaboration, and creating opportunities for residents to come together in positive, practical ways.

Keep an eye on their social media for updates on upcoming events and opportunities. And for groups seeking a welcoming meeting space, number 50 is open for enquiries at sheptonfridge@gmail.com .

As the project embarks on this next chapter, the mood is one of celebration and optimism. From humble beginnings as a community fridge to a fully-fledged waste action group, Shepton Mallet has every reason to be proud of this homegrown success story.

✨ Here’s to SWAG — and to a greener, more resourceful future for Shepton Mallet!
