Exploring Values at Open Doors Crewkerne

As part of our support for community groups across Somerset, CAG Somerset recently facilitated a values workshop with the inspiring team at Open Doors Crewkerne. The session brought together team members and community voices to explore the heart of their work—and the values that guide it.

We began with a powerful storytelling circle, where participants shared real-life moments that illustrated how Open Doors has made a difference. These stories spoke of transformation, kindness, and the importance of connection—reminding us why the community fridge and chop and chat matters so deeply to those who use it.

Next, we invited everyone to reflect and share words they felt represented Open Doors, Crewkerne now and in the future. Words like togetherness, sharing, hope, fairness, inclusion, and friendship came up time and again painting a rich picture of a place where everyone is welcomed and supported.

Together, we explored three key values in more depth:

  • Sharing – of skills, food, knowledge, and resources
  • Growing – as individuals, a community, and an organisation
  • Togetherness – creating a sense of home, safety, and empathy

From this collective process, the group shaped a new mission statement to guide their future work:

“Open Doors is set up to create and sustain a welcoming and inclusive space in Crewkerne, to strengthen local life.”

Thank you to Open doors, Crewkerne, It was a joy to facilitate this process and witness the warmth, care, and vision that defines Open Doors Crewkerne. We’re proud to support such a values-driven, people-powered initiative—and excited to see what comes next.
