Celebrating Our Volunteers: National Volunteer Week 2025
From 2nd to 8th June 2025, we proudly celebrate National Volunteer Week — a time dedicated to recognising and thanking the incredible people who give their time, energy, and heart to support our communities.
At the heart of every strong and connected community are the volunteers who make it all possible. Whether it’s organising local events, running sustainability initiatives, or simply lending a hand where it’s needed most, volunteers are the quiet heroes whose efforts often go unseen — but never unappreciated.
Last November, we launched a survey across the CAG (Community Action Groups) network to better understand the experiences, motivations, and needs of our volunteers. The response left us feeling inspired and deeply grateful. So many of our members took the time to share stories, feedback, and reflections — and we want to say thank you.
One of the most powerful insights from the survey was that 94% of volunteers said their main reason for volunteering was to support their local community. This speaks volumes about the compassion and selflessness within the CAG network. You’re not just showing up — you’re building resilience, fostering connection, and creating lasting change.
The benefits of volunteering go far beyond the community — they positively impact the volunteers themselves. According to our survey:
- 80% of respondents said they genuinely enjoyed their volunteering experience.
- 57% reported that they had made new friends through their involvement.
From boosting wellbeing to building meaningful social connections, volunteering is a win–win for everyone involved.
In the past year alone, the value of volunteer hours within the CAG network surpassed an astonishing £234,000. That’s thousands of hours of dedication, passion, and care poured into community projects, environmental action, and local resilience — all driven by people like you.
As we celebrate National Volunteer Week 2025, we want every volunteer across the network to know this: you matter. Your time, your energy, your commitment — it’s the backbone of everything we do. You are helping to shape stronger, more sustainable communities for everyone.
From all of us at CAG, thank you for being part of the journey.
