About our group

What we do;

Born during lockdown in 2020, our vision is that people living in Wiveliscombe and wider 10 Parishes can enjoy better physical and mental health because they have access to healthy, tasty and affordable food.  Using quality ingredients destined for landfill plus surplus produce from local growers and Wivey Grows, another local charity, we prepare and distribute healthy meals for people in our community as well as operate a weekly pantry for those needing help stretching their food budget.

About our group

Every week, our team of volunteers prepare, cook and freeze up to 350 individual dishes, including soups, main courses and puddings, for distribution via 2 open-access freezers, one in St Andrew’s Church Wiveliscombe and one in St Michael’s Church Milverton.  These are free to anyone in our community that can’t cook for themselves, can’t get out easily to buy healthy food or are struggling financially.  Sometimes, these are people that are experiencing a temporary set-back, illness or hardship and need a little extra help for a while. Each Friday, our delivery volunteers take frozen meals to local people that are unable to leave their homes or cook for themselves or their family due to illness, or some other form of frailty.  We also operate a membership-only pantry which is open every Wednesday 8.45-12 noon at The School Room,  St Andrew’s Church, Wiveliscombe.  Each week, pantry members can buy a bag of items, worth up to £25, for a minimal charge of £5. The number of items will vary but will usually include fresh fruit and vegetables, chilled items such as dairy or meat and tinned/dried items, depending on availability and what we receive from our suppliers.  Most of the food we provide to members would have gone to waste.

A picture of a community allotment. wooden planters are in neat rows with small paths between them. Within the planters are different green leafy plants of varying heights. In some planters are canes growing peas. All plants appear to be seasonal summer vegetables. To the back right of the image are some sheds and the community allotment continues right through the image
