International Women’s Day 2024

As we celebrate International Women’s Day today, CAG Somerset is delighted to shine a light on exceptional women who are driving change and nurturing community spirit within their local areas. We know that within our network, there are numerous remarkable women making a positive difference every day.

To recognise their dedication and hard work, we called upon the CAG Somerset community to nominate outstanding local women, and we are thrilled to celebrate two brilliant nominees, the first being from Crewkerne Community Kitchen!

These are the kind words taken from their group’s nomination submission:

Kirsteen Catherwood- Crewkerne Community Kitchen

Kirsteen has helped transform our food distribution through her commitment to our community, her sheer hard work and cheerful open approach. She used to pick up food from our distribution sessions but quickly volunteered to help out, and became a key member of the team. We used to distribute food from Bar5 in the town Centre (Thankyou again for your support!), but she led the push to get Crewkerne Town Council to give us space in one of their buildings, to get fridges and freezers so we can collect chilled and frozen foods, and also handle large donations or gluts. She is now responsible for running three sessions a week and makes sure there are enough volunteers available to make sure the sessions are a success. Her inclusive open approach with everyone helps create a positive environment and a team where everyone pulls together and knows how they can contribute.

Something your group would like you to know: How much everyone appreciates your hard work and commitment.

Street Parish Council, who support Street Repair Café have also nominated an excellent nominee described as ‘Intuitive; compassionate & accomplished’ from Pyramid Boxing Club in Street.

These are the kind words taken from the Parish Council’s nomination submission:

Nicole – Pyramid Boxing Club in Street

Nicole empowers the empowered and sees everyone. I reckon a bespoke experience. She has seen what was needed in our community and addressed and delivered it beautifully, without shaming.

Something the Parish Council would like you to know:  She has changed lives, so much for the better. No one will forget it.

These women embody the spirit of International Women’s Day through their dedication and passion to community empowerment and inspiring positive change.

Join us in celebrating these inspiring women. Happy International Women’s Day to all the change-makers we have in our CAG Somerset Network!

In some planters are canes growing peas. All plants appear to be seasonal summer vegetables. To the back right of the image are some sheds and the community allotment continues right through the image
